Standard phone audio format at 64 kilobits per second for clear voice.
An agent uses a browser phone. The cloud contact center converts the browser’s Opus audio to G.711 so the call can travel across the public phone network. The call sounds fine but uses more bandwidth than Opus.
G.711 is a long used phone audio format that keeps speech clear without heavy compression. It is widely supported by carriers and gateways and adds very little delay, so conversations feel natural. Two regional versions exist, but they sound much the same in practice. In contact centers it is common when calls touch the traditional phone network or older equipment. Browser based calls can be converted to G.711 at the provider’s gateway so everything works together. It uses more bandwidth than newer formats like Opus, so give voice traffic priority to reduce dropouts and choppy audio.
