About Operata

Operata is the CX Observability platform for the AI-enabled contact center. In a fractured landscape of CCaaS platforms, Voice AI agents, and BPOs, Operata shines a light into the real-time customer experience by harmonizing technical, operational, and experience data into a clear map for IT and Operations teams. Headquartered in Denver, Colorado and Melbourne, Australia.

Bringing Observability to Customer Experience

Operating a consistently high-performing cloud contact center is now a mission-critical requirement for modern enterprises. Yet the technical complexity and fragmentation of today's digital customer experience create significant challenges for contact center operations and IT teams.

From network, browser, and headset failures to BPO performance issues and opaque AI systems, countless factors degrade customer interactions—many of which sit outside the visibility and control of even the most experienced teams.

As the world's first CX observability platform, Operata brings clarity to this complexity. By unifying technical, operational, and experience data across fragmented but interconnected systems, Operata exposes patterns that allow enterprises to diagnose issues faster, resolve them more effectively, and proactively improve every customer interaction in real time.

Often described as the "Datadog for Contact Centers," Operata enables enterprises to move from reactive firefighting to proactive CX optimisation.

Our vision is to put "people experience" at the heart of communications.

With Operata, enterprises gain the insight, intelligence, and control needed to operate resilient, high-performing contact centers and deliver truly connected customer experiences at scale.

Job Description

Are you an engineer who thrives on working across the full stack—from browser-level telemetry collection to scalable backend services and rich web application experiences?

This role is about building and evolving the Operata platform end-to-end. You will work across our browser extension, web application, data pipelines, and backend APIs and services to deliver the features and capabilities that make Operata indispensable to enterprise contact center operations teams.

You will take an API-first approach to building scalable, secure, and reliable systems while collaborating closely with product and business stakeholders to understand customer problems and translate them into elegant technical solutions.

This is not a narrow specialist role. You will have the opportunity to work across the entire platform, from client-side data collectors to cloud infrastructure, and contribute to the ongoing evolution of our product.

Why This Role Exists

Operata's CX observability platform spans a wide technical surface area—from in-browser agents that capture telemetry in real time, to backend data pipelines that process and analyse millions of events, to a web application that surfaces actionable insights to enterprise customers.

To deliver on our product vision and scale with our growing customer base, we need full stack engineers who can move fluidly across these layers, building features that are reliable at scale, secure by design, and grounded in a deep understanding of customer needs.

We are hiring a Full Stack Engineer to strengthen our product engineering capability—someone who can take ownership of features from concept through to production and contribute meaningfully across the entire platform.

How You Will Make an Impact

You will:

  • Build and maintain features across the Operata platform, working across the browser extension, web application, data pipelines, and backend APIs and services
  • Take an API-first approach to development, ensuring scalability, security, and reliability in everything you build
  • Develop and manage client-side data collectors, including in-browser agents and server-side Lambdas, innovating methods to capture observability data from diverse sources and platforms
  • Collaborate closely with business and product stakeholders to understand customer challenges and their jobs to be done
  • Work alongside your engineering peers to drive the continuous evolution and improvement of the platform
  • Participate in monthly hack days to explore new tools, experiment with cutting-edge technologies, enhance the developer experience, or develop new product ideas
  • Contribute to infrastructure-as-code, CI/CD pipelines, and DevOps practices that keep our platform robust and deployable

What You Will Own

You will have real ownership and decision-making authority over the features and systems you build.

Specifically, you will own:

  • End-to-end delivery of platform features from design through to production deployment
  • Frontend components and experiences within the Operata web application
  • Backend APIs, services, and data pipeline components that support your feature areas
  • Client-side data collection capabilities, including browser extension and agent instrumentation
  • Quality, reliability, and performance of the systems you build and maintain
  • Technical design decisions within your areas of ownership, in collaboration with the broader engineering team

Constraints and Context

We believe being explicit about constraints leads to better outcomes:

  • Operata operates across a diverse technology stack spanning frontend, backend, data pipelines, and cloud infrastructure—breadth is valued alongside depth
  • Our platform collects and processes telemetry at scale, requiring careful attention to performance, reliability, and cost efficiency
  • Customer environments vary significantly, meaning our data collection and integration approaches must be flexible and resilient
  • We are a small, scaling team—engineers are expected to take ownership beyond their immediate comfort zone and contribute where the team needs them most
  • Security is paramount given the enterprise nature of our customer base and the sensitivity of the data we handle

These constraints are explicit by design—we expect our platform capabilities and engineering practices to evolve as we scale.

What Success Looks Like

In your first 6–12 months, success will look like:

  • Delivering multiple end-to-end features that are in production and actively used by customers
  • Demonstrating the ability to work effectively across the full stack—frontend, backend, and infrastructure
  • Building strong collaborative relationships with product, engineering, and business stakeholders
  • Contributing to improvements in code quality, developer experience, and engineering practices
  • Developing a solid understanding of our customers' contact center environments and the problems Operata solves for them
  • Actively participating in hack days and bringing new ideas to the team

Failure would look like working in isolation without understanding customer needs, delivering features that don't meet reliability or scalability standards, or being unwilling to work across the stack when the team needs flexibility.

Role Scope and Growth

  • This is an individual contributor role with significant influence over platform direction
  • You will work closely with Engineering, Product, and Customer Success to understand needs and priorities
  • Over time, this role could grow into technical leadership or specialisation in areas of deep interest
  • You will have direct input into technical design decisions and engineering practices as the team scales

Qualifications

You'll likely bring experience in several of the following areas:

  • 3+ years of experience in full stack development with strong frontend and backend skills
  • Strong programming skills in TypeScript, React, and Go or similar languages; Python, Java, or Scala is a plus
  • Expertise in API development with a solid understanding of microservices architecture
  • Experience working with infrastructure as code—Terraform (preferred), AWS CloudFormation/SAM/CDK, or similar
  • Hands-on experience with DevOps best practices, Kubernetes, container orchestration, and serverless architectures
  • Proficiency with SQL and database technologies such as PostgreSQL, OpenSearch, Redshift, ClickHouse, or similar
  • Experience with CI/CD workflow tools such as GitHub Actions, Buildkite Pipelines, or AWS Workflows
  • A solid understanding of cloud security best practices
  • Bachelor's degree in IT, Computer Science, or related Engineering field

Depth in modern web development and a genuine interest in building reliable, scalable systems matter more than ticking every box.
